About Local Baby Support

Local Baby Support is a free directory of the people who help families before and after a baby arrives: lactation consultants, doulas, midwives, birth centers and pediatric therapists, in every state.

Why it exists

The first weeks with a baby bring questions that can't wait, and the people who can help are hard to find. Many of them work on their own, visit families at home and never show up in an ordinary search. We put them in one place, by town, with a phone number you can tap.

Where the listings come from

Every listing starts in the federal NPI registry, the public record health providers use to bill insurance. Providers record their specialty and where they practice, and they're required to keep it current. We list the people and practices whose records say they do this work. How we list practices explains the rules, and Data sources lists every source.

What we don't do

  • We don't charge anyone to be listed. A practice can pay for the top spot on a city page; that spot is always labeled Ad, and paying never changes what a listing says or who we list.
  • We don't take a cut of anyone's fees, and we don't charge per call or per referral.
  • We don't ask about your health. Our forms never ask for medical details.
  • We don't give medical advice. If you're worried about your baby or yourself, call your doctor or midwife.

If you need help right now

The National Maternal Mental Health Hotline, 1-833-852-6262 (1-833-TLC-MAMA), is free, confidential and open 24/7 by call or text, in English and Spanish. In a crisis, call or text 988. If anyone is in danger, call 911.

Who runs it

Local Baby Support is an independent directory run by Field Notes Directories. Providers can claim, correct or remove a listing any time. Everyone else can write to hello@localbabysupport.com.
